Sharing the stage with Colours and Lyrikal Storm for the WOMAN 2014 program at Bus Boys and Poets to celebrate National Women’s History Month was AWESOME!!
Colours is about promoting positive social change in the community and empowering youth to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Colours also continues to work to raise funds to support programs in New Orleans & Mississippi as well as Breast Cancer Research.
Lyrikal Storm’s primary objective is to hone poetry writing and spoken word skills through workshops, participation in poetry readings, and competitions.
Woman 2014 was inspired by Colours founder, Jason Cook’s mother and daughter. The show traced the path of a woman traveling from New Orleans to Chicago then heading to D.C in the 1980’s where the protagonist was celebrated for being a “Superwoman.” Poetry performances by Lyrikal Storm members including myself were woven throughout the program to intensify the celebration of women.
Special thanks to School Board Member Amber Waller for her support of the program, The Family Crisis Center, Busboys and Poets for being an awesome place to have a program and last but not least, many thanks to the families who came out to support the arts.
