National Poetry Month Celebration

Picture
BIo:  Saju Joseph is the Director of Business Development at a senior independent living facility and is getting hitched this September!  He writes poetry as an escape and lately it’s just been when possible for events. His last few poems were spoken word for church and other activities like Salvation Army events.

Untitled Poem

She's gotta have the beauty, looks, n brains
Mad skills in everything n a bit insane.
Lovely as the sunrise pretty as sunset
Gazin in her eyes her soul, I've met.
Perfect in every way, dreams in reality
This happiness dropping an angel to see
A guy who isn't cut out so perfectly.
Actually imperfection is the best definition for me.
But somehow this love is perfectly serene
Those rare moments when u give me a second, a chance
To stare so hard, engulfed within a trance
This girl I thought who  could never be mine
Fit so well within my arms, surpassing sunshine.

don't matter cuz  I've tried, on bendin' knees.
You's irreplaceable, like bone thugs n harmony.
cupids chokehold ain't gotta grip on me
I ain't ordinary people, n I don't have a gallery.
but imma go getta, n I will cross the ocean for you boo,
I mean more than words, just wish u'd save room.
I'm lost without u, so into you, hopeful on the southside
this very moment, I'm missin you, like bonnie n clyde.
If this world were mine, u'd b my sweet lady,
shawty I'll buy u a drank, my love, u's beautiful baby.
I know u's over my head, imma streetrat wit ghetto love
if i ain't got u, I'd ask 21 questions to figure out from above
why I can't take my eyes off you, tis true, imma soul survivor
I heard em' say we belong together, even thru the wire...
jus wishin' tis not the end of the road
don’t let me be misunderstood, even if things b cold...
but here I am, a riff raff, yea just me
walkin it out, 2 steppin' in my white tee.
where can she be?
In my dreams, now my reality.

"Shout out to the ones who are aiming to be more than just the best."

The Interview

Where do you draw your inspiration from to write poetry?
Experiences, family, friends, and faith. I think that’s where we all get our inspiration, but I think certain people are put in our lives for a reason, under every season.

What advice do you have for someone that is threatened by poetry?
Poetry is one of the greatest ways to express oneself on paper, through lyrics that pour out what the heart is thinking.

What is an interesting fact about you?
I have never taken music lessons, learned how to read sheet music, nor learned how to play a real instrument. But somehow someway I’ve always loved singing in harmony and playing piano by ear.

Where are you from/Where do you live?
I was born and raised in Philly and moved down to Dallas.

Who is your favorite poet?
All time favorite is Shakespeare.

I like Saju Joseph, his way of writing and speaking of poetry makes me feel the story behind it, and not just the words

I love this. Poems that are about females are my favorite. Being a female and a great one at that is hard now a days. People don't really give us credit.

Many poets make attempts at telling stories through their poems, but the way Saju presents his poetry is both very modern and enjoyable to read.

It's interesting how he doesn't fully write out certain words, it gives character to the poem.

"Brokenness needs healing only he can overflow our wealth" Those words are powerful to me because they to me are an example of the depth of your belief and how you have become redeemed.

I like how he puts his own style into the way he wrote the poem. It's describing a girl he loves. I also like the ending to the poem. Very nice!

This poem was so romantic. The way it was put together and the use of song titles to describe your feelings is really creative and down to earth.

I like his poem about the girl he loves. He mentions that he not only noticed the girl's beauty, but her brain's too
