Passing the NPM Torch to....

The person I choose to pass my National Poetry Month torch on to is poetess Ashley "Mz Spill Da Tea"Chambers!! The reason I chose Mz. Spill Da Tea is because of her gift of words, love and dedication to the poetry world. I watch her passion for the arts she is always posting poetry and shining light on the poetry world and bringing a spotlight to those who are not well known in the circle. She is host of Satin Plus Effect Poetry Radio that airs live every Friday.

Ashley Chambers (Mz.Spill Tha Tea) is a Virgo, wife, mother, plus-size model and poet from South Carolina. Currently, she co-hosts an Open Mic Blogtalk show called The Plus Effect on Black Satin Radio. Monique Wells and I were presented with this opportunity to reach out to our Plus Size Community and incorporate an open mic platform for our poetry family. We are forever humbled for the outpouring love from our supporters and listeners shown each week.

In addition, Mz. Spill Tha Tea is the CEO of the Curvy Vixens founded in 2008. The Curvy Vixens is a sisterhood of Plus size women motivating and uplifting each other on real-life experiences. In my spare time, I enjoy modeling, writing and listening to poetry.  In closing, Maya Angelou said it best.... If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.....

The Interview

Where do you draw your inspiration from to write poetry?
Life Lessons. I focus on bringing messages that will encourage and uplift. Pain changes people, so writing is my therapy with any situation that I'm up against.

What advice do you have for someone that is threatened by poetry?
Words from the wise...Poetry does more healing than harm. Poetry is art, nothing to be afraid of.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I am 18 years younger than my oldest sister. My mother had me at age 42. The doctors said that her pregnancy would be a high risk, but guess what. ..Im blessed to be here.

Where are you from?  Where do you live?

Im from Hopkins SC... Currently, residing in my hometown.

Who is your favorite poet?

Maya Angelou
