HOTSPOT Author BlogThe HOTSPOT~Ward 8 Book Festival is the first of its kind to take place in Southeast Washington, DC on Saturday June 15th, 2013. Lamont Carey of LaCarey Entertainment created The HOTSPOT~Ward 8 Book Festival as a way to combat high illiteracy rates and to make published authors (especially local authors) accessible to impoverished communities. It is important for Lamont to ignite the desire to read, write, and support the aspirations of fellow authors and link them with the community. Alongside Lamont, Council-Member Marion Barry will be presenting the festival and showing his support. I’ve worked with Lamont on several projects over the years and I am delighted to support his mission. Starting tomorrow, I will showcase HOTSPOT ~ Ward 8 Book Festival Authors on my blog. I am excited to be apart of this wonderful experience and encourage you to be a part of this historical event. Where will it be? It will be held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue between the corners of W. Street & Chicago Street, SE; on the parking lot located near "The Big Chair". Sounds like an awesome event. I have recently found a new love for reading and have been reading a wide variety of genres that I wasn't interested in before.

Looks like a great event--and for a great cause. I have always been an avid reader and feel blessed to have been able to pass it on to my kids. Best of luck with your festival.

What a great idea. I have plans to write a book and have no clue how to get it published. Wished I lived closer.

I love the D.C. area. Wish I could go, but we're in Dallas, TX. I'm in the middle of writing several books right now!

It's so important to bring different types of events to kids. Some kids don't get a lot of cultural education at home. So, they have to get it elsewhere. I love spending time with my grandkids. We go to bookstores and they each get to pick out a book. I take them to places around town where they might not otherwise go like the Biosphere and the Sonoran Desert Museum.

This look like a super cool event - wish I lived near there - we don't have anything this cool around where I live.
