Prayers for All Effected by the Navy Yard Shooting

My condolences and prayers go out to the families and colleagues affected by the shooting at the Navy Yard on September 16, 2013.  I was stuck in traffic only miles away from the area because a U-Haul truck flipped over the median on the Baltimore Washington Parkway.  I had family and friends who were on lockdown during this event and I am thankful that they are safe.   When something like this happens in close proximity, it gives a quick reality check that anything can happen at any time.  I pray for people battling mental illness and sympathy fatigue.  The world is calling on our humanity to heal itself and to love.  I pray for those who for one reason or the other did not make it into work yesterday and were hit with the reminder of their mortality.  A big thanks to Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Rescue workers.  Prayers for a speedy recovery for the victims still in the hospital.  May you find comfort in knowing that not only Washington, DC, but the country is with you.

Feel free to share words of encouragement and condolences here:

There have been too many tragedies like this lately. We need to do a better job of keeping this from happening.

So sad and unnecessary. I'm sure it did hit you hard being so close. I just don't understand why people feel the need to do this and take innocent lives.

Such a sad event. Our world is subtly slipping away and when things like this happen it is a wake up call to us all that it is real. My heart is hurting for those innocent people who were cut short of life. Their friends, family and co-workers will never be the same.

As a nurse who worked in an psychiatric hospital and out-patient psychiatric facility I am all too familiar with how the effects of life events can adversely affect people... making them into something they would never have been. I sympathy goes out to all those affected!

This is too crazy.
I have friends who live in Europe, I asked them, how often chit like that happened there, they all said, hardly ever.

It was heart wrenching to hear about another shooting of innocent people. There were signs of problems in the shooters mentality. Does that mean it's ok to do what he did? No. I think that we need to start listening as a nation, disciplining from within and quit letting other people's opinion form our governing laws.
