Nanette M. Buchanan was born, raised and educated in Newark, New Jersey. She attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It was then that she first set her pen to pad and wrote expressions of her love for poetry.

Her writing accomplishments include three volumes of poetry; Thoughts, Thoughts & Reflections and Quiet Times. Nanette’s first published work and debut novel was “Family Secrets….Lies & Alibis.”

Nanette's preferred genre’ is romantic fiction, but readers will attest they all have suspense, mystery and a dramatic twist.  It is her goal to become a successful author without limits; writing and producing plays that feature her poems as well as adaptations of her novels on the “big screen”.  Nanette is a proud mother, wife and grandmother who resides in Somerset, New Jersey.

Advice for Aspiring Authors

"Write because it is who you are, who you have always been, because it is who you long to be; but as an aspiring author you must be wise. Be mindful of your audience, those you attract and attach to your pen. You can no longer use fragmented sentences, misspelled words, misused verbs and punctuation. Understand the business, learn the business; keep an open mind to marketing and promotional ideas. Seek what will elevate your writing and be cost effective for your writing is no longer a hobby. As a published writer, you are a professional with a professional business. "

You are correct about correct grammar and spelling. That is something that can kill your deal because they think if you don't do this...then you don't come off very professional.

I like the quote, write because that is who you are. People need to take that into consideration when trying to figure out life.. I know people who are amazing writers, but wont put that pen to paper like she did.

Her tip is spot on! You cannot be lazy, take shortcuts, and not proof your work and find editors to then proof and read your work. Excellence is demanding of you and it demonstrates high professionalism and credibility. Plus, don't mimic other, be who you are and stand in your place.
