I really wondered about the said "first rule of fiction", so I researched about it a bit. The showing process lets the reader follow the author

I love his advice Show don't tell. Mr. Holland is certainly an accomplished person. If I am going to read for fun, which I don't get to do very often, it would be a legal thriller. I will have to check him out.
