Yvonne Brown is the author of Crying Girl and founder of the Crying Girl Movement. Her writing has been published in Chasing Rainbows, The Voices and Maryland Writers Project, broadcasted on Radio One and highlighted in PAPER magazine. She has served in various capacities for the Toni Morrison Society ranging from archivist to her current role as Social Media Chair for 15 years.
Previously, Yvonne taught high school English in Prince George’s County, Maryland for a decade where, in 2005, she was 1 out of 29 educators selected across the nation to participate in the Language Matters II: Reading and Teaching Toni Morrison, an intensive week-long National Endowment for the Humanities masterclass at Northern Kentucky University.
Yvonne earned a M.A. in teaching and a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland. She lives in the Washington, D.C. area with her two children.
